SPIRE-OBSTETRIC-ANESTHESIA is a multicenter database development project being performed in Lahore and Peshawar. We will be compiling data about mothers undergoing cesarean sections in emergency situations and their babies. It is well known that anesthesia can give rise to complications in mothers and babies but we have no data from Pakistan to show this in our populations. Pakistan has one of the highest maternal and infant mortality rates in the world and we also have one of the highest fertility rates. We hope to be able to show the effects of anesthesia on mothers and their babies in our population through this project. Five large hospitals from Lahore and one hospital from Peshawar are providing the data. Project completion is expected by December 2023.
