SPIRE-ARI 2023
SPIRE-ARI 2023 is a unique project being conducted for the first time in three hospitals in most underserved areas of KP, Pakistan. Death toll in children from acute respiratory infections, ARI is well documented and Pakistan is leading poor countries in this death toll. We loose thousands of children to pneumonia and other respiratory infections every year. SPIRE-ARI 2023 is an interventional project. We have recruited three hospitals in rural KP where children are treated. NEAD-SPIRE will provide medical equipment and medicines used for treating ARI and train staff in these hospitals for better monitoring of children with ARI to improve the clinical outcomes for these children. SPIRE-ARI MOU
Two pediatric units in Karak, KP are actively participating in the project. ARI stands for Acute Respiratory Infection. SPIRE provided medicines and equipment to these two centers in September 2023 and signed MOUs with the local pediatric specialists. PKR 100,000/- was provided to each center in form of oxygen gauges, nebulizers, oxygen masks, medicines used in ARI and data was entered into the SPIRE-ARI database. Hundred of children have benefited from the project and continue to do so. Project data is now being prepared for publication by the SPIRE team.
SPIRE- ARI 2023 UPDATES
- We are recruiting manuscript writers and statistical support in preparation for manuscript compilation of this very exciting project. Two Category-C hospitals in KP participated. Cases will be enrolled through February. Manuscript prep will begin in March 2024.
- 10 author slots are open for ARI papers, but authors are required to actually work towards their publication. No gift authorships are given at SPIRE.
